RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Requires a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, engineering science and mechanics, mathematics, or physics.

Tire Development Engineer

  • Designs and analyzes new tires for original equipment or replacement markets, with a focus on design for ease of manufacturing
  • Translates tire design specifications into manufacturing specifications and supports the manufacturing plants during the industrialization phase
  • Provides design support for building prototype tires and evaluates prototype tire results for conformance to the model and specifications

Tire Research Engineer

  • Conceives, analyzes, and evaluates new tire designs. Applies FEA and other analytical tools to optimize the designs
  • Provides tire design specification for prototype manufacturing. Coordinates the machine and vehicle testing of the prototypes
  • Applies project mode fundamentals as appropriate, either as a project leader or as project team member. This may involve feasibility studies and application of project management software.

Tire FEA Performance Analyst

  • Analytically supports the tire development teams by utilizing FEA tools to model, analyze, and optimize tire design and performance
  • Creates, optimizes, and maintains part, shape and mesh models for FEA applications
  • Optimizes computer software to accommodate unique needs of product line technical groups

Performance Research Engineer

  • Creates and develops new models and test procedures for improving tire performance and develops knowledge linking material and construction to tire performance
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research with counterparts in the United States, France and Japan to achieve objectives and conducts and coordinates research with external suppliers, universities, and other outside entities develop tire performance expertise
  • Serves as an expert to original equipment customers regarding tire performance

R&D Software Development

  • FE Developer: Develops and supports the use of Finite Element (FE) and other analytic software for engineering design use in tire and process design
  • CAD Software Developer: Develops and supports the use of CAD software and algorithms for CAD applications for engineering design use in tire and process design
