Materials Research

I was born in 1963 in Gainesville, Florida and raised in Raleigh, NC. I attended NC State for my bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. I then went on for my PhD at Virginia Tech in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on structure property relationships of polymers.

I began my career with Michelin Americas Research and Development (MARC) in 1991 as a tread formulator. I then spent two years in our central research and development center in France working on specific materials subjects, learning the language, and becoming familiar with my French colleagues. Since 1997, I have been working in materials research on elastomers, structure-property relationships of rubber compounds, integration of tire electronics into our tires and presently, formulating rubber compound for heavy weight truck treads. I am also serving as co-coordinator for our cooperative education program at MARC. Overall, I have been pleased with Michelin's management of my career and look forward to new challenges in future positions.

I would recommend working for Michelin in the area of Research and Development for several reasons - the people with whom I work, the challenging and interesting work on rubber (nanocomposite) and other materials, the opportunity to work with outside entities, the training program and the location of the Research and Development Center in Greenville, SC.
